Lunada Bay Tile Breaks Design Barriers with New Contourz Collection

(Harbor City, CA, April 18, 2016) You’ve seen concrete tiles on the floor, used as exterior cladding, and on the occasional feature wall. Now, Lunada Bay Tile is breaking design boundaries with Contourz, a new collection of three-dimensional concrete tiles that can stand alone as a design focal point or be incorporated with other materials, creating the ultimate toolbox of creativity for designers and architects.

“Contourz is a beautiful, sustainable medium to work with, and its architectural nature allows it to play well with many other materials,” says Feras Irikat, Director of Design and Marketing at Lunada Bay Tile. Irikat worked on the collection’s unique flat field and three-dimensional design in collaboration with Lunada Bay Tile President and CEO Carl Steadly and Mike Taylor, an engineer with nearly 15 years of experience in the concrete industry.

Thanks to Taylor’s thoughtful engineering and design ingenuity, Lunada Bay Tile’s new Contourz concrete tiles measure just 8 millimeters thick—a similar thickness as standard ceramic, porcelain and glass tile—which allows the concrete tiles to be used in combination with other tile collections for a mixed media effect. The Contourz Collection was deliberately designed to coordinate with Lunada Bay Tile’s glass collections to offer a more well-rounded, full menu of available options, according to Steadly, who hinted a floor collection of concrete tile is in the making.

“Imagine that you can now use concrete on a kitchen backsplash or a shower wall without taking up any more thickness or design real estate than standard tile choices would,” Irikat added. “It makes it so easy to incorporate these tiles into any residential or commercial application, indoors or outdoors, and blend them with other tiles to create any look you desire.”

Designed and manufactured in Lunada Bay Tile’s new facility in Southern California, the collection consists of three rectangular field tiles measuring 3” x 3”, 3” x 6” and 3” x 9”; Fanfare Hex, a three-dimensional form made up of symmetrical surfaces folding onto one plane to form a 4” hexagonal base; and Flayme, a rectangular tile featuring flame-like elevations; Trifecta, a triangular tile with elevated, sloped curves; and Zen Break, a three-dimensional sloping rectangular tile. The collection is rounded out with two liners: Retro Curve, which features a soft bullnosed edge; and Char Liner, which uses a bullnosed edge on one side and a cove edge on the other.

Lunada Bay Tile Contourz will be available in 18 earth-toned hues, including warm and cool grays and shades of taupe and brown. In addition, more exotic colors will be available via special order. Engineered to the highest specifications for commercial installations, the tiles are also produced with an integrated sealer that helps protect them from staining.
